David, as I wasn't on Cc I never noticed your question about what to do if there
is no accepted abbreviation. There should be _something_, as otherwise a number
format code like MMM would display empty. Some locales use numbers 1-12, or
roman numbers I-XII, or whatever may be convenient, you may also duplicate the
full name if appropriate.
