lar, you mentioned "you are dragging text, not the table itself."

That's NOT correct: Writer DOES create a new table from the selection and drops
it to a new position. In fact, if you click in the new table, Writer will show
you a table number and cell number in the status line. Further, all the cell
attributes are also copied (background color, borders, etc.) to the new table.

Probably Writer does that to prevent the table from changing shape (collapsing)
if user D&Ds some part of it. For example, the user may D&D a rectangular
selection containing a few rows and a few columns from the table. Writer cannot
delete these cells out of the table. So, in that case this logic is correct. 

But when the ENTIRE table is selected, Writer should not apply the same logic.

Provision should be made to let the user select the table (lock stock and
barrel) and move it. What is missing here is a simple selection handle, as in MS
Word.
