I am using the gnome X windows.
I just had the paste function issue again. I was copying/pasting from gedit to
calc.
The paste icon in calc is greyed out. The paste item is missing from the right
click menu. I can copy from gedit and paste to calc using the ctl-c / ctl-v
method.
