Since it is orthogonal to 23612 (not a duplicate), it can be "fixed" without
doing anything about 23612, that's what orthogonal means (I would be glad to
switch it off in both Calc and Writer at the same time or separately).
But it's not enough to allow the user to switch off anything after he was lucky
enough to have caught it and changed it back, or diligent enough to check and
decide about each and every option before starting to use the application; the
permission should be obtained before doing anything. The bare minimum would be
asking one boolean question at installation time: would the user appreciate
having OOo making appropriate changes on his behalf (could even be on by default
in an installation-time wizard)?
It's really a lot more than just autocorrection. Any application should ask for
permission before changing data, periodically saving anything (at least it's not
a forced commit, apparently), even keeping track of recent documents (how do I
get rid of that list?).
