Maybe this additional information may help:
Go in Control Panel-->International Options-->Customize-->Date-->Date Format
My operating system (in italian) shows this option as "gg/MM/aa" and i can't
change.
Instead in Openoffice the date format is always in capital letters and i can't
change!
Maybe the problem is the case-sensitive, infact the result is that when i
close the file and then reload, OO will show correctly only the month.
