2006 -------
I replicated the error on a Windows Xp Home Edition machine on version OOo 2.0.
I found an interesting issue about the problem:
The spell checker preserves the case (capitalization)of a mis-spelled word only
when 1) the word begins with a capital letter and 2) when that happens to be
the only capital letter in the word.
As a result in the example of "theSecretary", since the phrase does not start
with a capital letter, the spel checker boldly makes the assumption that it
should not be dealing with preserving the case of the phrase.
This gets problematic also when by mistake a capital letter is typed somewhere
within the mis-spelled word. For example
suggestion
NationaL ------------> national
whereras the user really expects "National" as the proper recommendation.
I tested this on MS Word 2003 and it seems to react gracefully.
