I can open the .ppt without crashing on Fedora Core 4 with official OOo 2.0.1.
Your stack trace looks like the OpenOffice.org provided by Fedora Core 4, and
that OOo build has crashing problems (

reproduce with a recent, official OOo build from http://download.openoffice.org
