When I changed the default e-mail reader in Gnome set-up from Evolution to Thunderbird ( gnome-default-applications-properties), then, by clicking onto an e-mail address on an OOo document, I got the right e-mail application. This must mean that the Tools - etc. window for selecting the e-mail application is somehow ineffective.
