2006 -------
create new presentation
type text to be hyperlink to local document
select intended hyperlink text
press "hyperlink" button
choose document
position cursor in "Document Path" box
click on "open file" button
select file and press "open" button
click on "apply"
click on "close"
---------------
click on hyperlink in presentations document
receive "The specified path does not exist" error pop-up
(Comment: I think this stems from MS Windows' allowing embedded spaces in file
and path names. The Windows assumption is that all such strings will be passed
to the system surrounding by double quote marks.)
clear error box by clicking on "OK"
---------------
double click on hyperlink text to enter text box in presentation
select the hyperlink text
press "hyperlink" button to re-open Hyperlink dialog box
(Observe that embedded spaces have been replaced by "%20" symbols -- this works
in Internet URLs but not within Windows path names.)
Select and remove path name from root (C:/...) down to local, i.e., relative
file name
click on "apply"
click on "close"
---------------
observe that cursor changes to Pointing Hand shape to idicate hyperlink on
mouseover
observe that hyperlink does not function
-- you can click it, and it appears to do something, but nothing happens
-- linked document does not open
on day I submitted the bug report, Impress crashed at this point.
-- sometimes it crashes, sometimes not
-- today it does not crash
-- the previous day, it crashed a total of three times
-- which was not all of the attempts made at hyperlinking
(sometimes it crashes, sometimes not, but it never hyperlinks to a relative
document path name)
