Actually the cross references basically are links, only they do not have an
absolute URL but a relative one. It's easier to access this feature via the
hyperlink dialog than via format->character, but after you have a cross
reference you can select it and manipulate the URL (some kind of "#<heading>" or
so) nonetheless. The hyperlink property is not a font attribute.

Nevertheless it is possible to differentiate the two; still i don't think it
would be good to differentiate the two since they are semantically the same. But
that is a matter of opinion.
