sj: The patch looks good and will work well on our existing 32-Bit platforms ->
confirmed.
sj->cmc: I estimate that there are further changes for 64-Bit platforms
following as we still make heavy usage of USHORTS, shorts and longs when
streaming into/from different file formats.
