The existing EPS Preview is not shown, when this Preview is "Transparent" Example of such EPS: http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/galleries/marketing/logos/ooo2-logo(black- outlines).eps Editing the file with Illustrator and changing the Preview to "Opaque" solves the problem.
