There is no good exhaustiv test for this. However, a few easy sample tests are:
1 Change <UserInstallation>/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu
by adding a newline after initial "<"; start soffice: the resulting error box
text should end in a question mark.
2 "Tools - Macros - Organize Macros - StarOffice Basic... - Edit", add an "x" at
the start of the first line ("xREM ..."); press "Run BASIC" button: the
resulting error box shall contain "Expected: Sub." with a terminating period.
3 "File - Open...", enter "none" as "File name:", press "Open" button: the
resulting error box shall contain "...none does not exist." with a terminating
period.
