I've been trying to give this a better look, and while it still reproduces, I
have found a work-around, described in the following steps:

1- Switch to a terminal (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F1) and open a simple xterm on kde
using 'DISPLAY=0:xterm'
2- Switch back to KDE (Alt+F7) and type the following lines on the xterm:

killall kwin
oowriter2 &

(Allow time to load)

kwin&

>From this point on everything works, and I am able to launch any OO app from
the kicker / konsole / run dialog, provided there is still one instance of OO
running.

Using the same steps konsole does not work, not does it work starting the
xterm from within KDE.

As for trying the native files, the openoffice-bin ebuild does just that. It's
basically a rpm_unpack of ooo_2.0.2_linuxintel_install.tar.gz to which no
patches are aplied, so that can't be it.

Any thoughts ?
