Are you serious? The missing timeout is a clear bug - it does not only block opening the "problematic" document, but also blocks _all_ other open OpenOffice document windows. If users get impatient after some time (say: 10 minutes for a small 100k document - I would get _really_ impatient then) and kill OpenOffice, they risk to loose all open documents. AFAIK this is a value many applications use because 30 seconds are clearly enough time to establish a connection even on slow lines. Also a timeout of 30 seconds for stalled connections (no single packet in this time) would be a good value.
