2006 -------
I downloaded the .PPS file from an AOL E-mail to my desktop but found I have no
program to open it on my Dell with Windows 98se. Same day I saw an article
about OpenOffice software and downloaded/installed it to see if I could open
PowerPoint (.PPT) files (thought the .PPS was .PPT. Before downloading it I
tried to download only the Impress function but didn't use the options menu
properly and all functions downloaded.

OpenOffice software opened and it seemed all of the different functions would
work OK starting from scratch but when I doubleclicked on the .PPS file on the
desktop, the OOo started to open but then I got the Crashrep error. I removed
the OpenOffice software and reinstalled it again not using the download
options, same problem. I removed all functions but the Impress but I still get
the Crashrep error when OOo (Impress) starts to open after doubleclicking
the .PPS file. I E-mailed the .PPS file to a Dell laptop with Windows XP and
it opened fine using a Presentations 12 Show by Corel program (don't have
PowerPoint). Presentations 12 Show saved it as a .SHW file. I saved it as
a .PPT file and E-mailed it back to the Windows 98 desktop in both .PPT
and .SHW - still get the Crashrep error when OOo starts to open either one.

"Do you select the Microsoft file types to open with OOo during the
installation?"
Do not know what you mean. Seems like after the Crashrep, OOo tried to "fix"
the file, at one point a large list of file types came up. I don't think I ever
selected any file types for OpenOffice to open, don't remember. If I did I
might have selected .PPT, don't think there was a .PPS or .SHW selection.

Thanks
