Impress has the same problem as MS Office when loading Powerpoint presentations
created in a certain way on a Mac. If the Mac user creates their presentation
by
dragging and dropping images into the content window, especially from a web
browser, then the images will be unreadable on the PC, either in MS Powerpoint
or Impress.

In Powerpoint the images show up with a text placeholder that says "Quicktime
is
needed to view this image" or similar. Under Impresss the images simply show up
as black.

I believe this problem is due to the fact that OS X uses Quicktime to handle
image manipulation functions and images on the clipboard. These image
manipulation functions and system-level hooks are apparently not available or
exposed in Quicktime for PC.

Loading and saving a presentation with these broken images results in a much
smaller presentation which has evidently had the broken images removed.

I have tested this also on the latest Office 2007 beta and it is still not
fixed.

This seems like a clear opportunity for OOo.org to surpass MS Office in
capability and compatibility. This is an extremely widespread problem and yes
MS
has failed to resolve it even for the 2007 version. A great many converts to
OOo.org could come out of enabling OOo.org to load and display the images in
these presentations properly.
