Both have nearly identical installations: WinXP SP2 with all Windows Update hotfixes to 2/17, Java SDK 1.5.0.01. The only possible difference I can see is that the laptop (where the error occurs) has the .NET framework version 1.1, and the desktop (no error) does not have .NET.
