Sorry, we (RedHat) don't support RedHat 9 anymore, having moved to RHEL and
Fedora. And your problem sounds like a bug in xfs rather than OpenOffice.org :-(
It is likely related to one of the fonts, you could try uninstalling the fonts
and adding them back in until you find the one that causes the problem. 

Perhaps http://www.fedoralegacy.org/ can help you, they provide some legacy
support for RedHat 9, mostly security errata, but you might be able to find some
updates which fix the problem.

I'll have to call this "invalid" from OOO's perspective as it's a xfs issue.
