In writer: enter some text and aply some styles (Use the {F11} button to do so)
Now, in the Styles and formatting dialog (Format > Styles and Formating)
> Choose Applied Styles in the pull-down menu. You should see the number of
styles  you used in the document.

> Choose Hierarchical in the pull-down menu. Notic you see all styles available
in the document.

I think it should be possible to see a hierarchical tree for only the styles you
applied. Also this should be possible for the other options in the pull-down
menu (Custom styles, automatic, text, etc)
