There is no way to edit these images easily once they are embedded in the document, even though gimp is installed on the system. You have to export the image to a file, open it in the image editor, re-embed it in the document, and redo all the associated formatting (margins, anchors, etc) This is all a very time-consuming process, even more so with big images which trigger cascading repaginations.
