I heard a similar variation to this once.

Same scenario, except that a _printed_ copy of the document appears in public.

A hidden code in the ODA file doesn't help here ...

So what this idea was is that the user ID varied the kerning very slightly.  Not
enough for the human eye to see, but enough
for a copier to promulgate and enough for a scanner to detect.

You scan the released copy, compare it against an untainted version ... note the
difference in kerning and extract the original ID of the person who leaked it
into public domain.

You can then ask him awkward questions.
