yes, I do understand your point. However -- in this specific case -- the change
was introduced for OOo 2.0. It just took some minor releases to get it really
done in terms of conformance to the spec. Sorry for that.
The other aspect is more general. The OOo engineering comminity decided to
develop features even for minor releases. Not just bug fixes as in the past.
This can give us an important advantage over the competition because we can
respond much faster on market/feature/usage requirements. Being open source does
not mean that we have no plan of what we are doing and that the user interface
jumps right and left from version to version. Minor changes will show up in the
user interface. Major changes should be targetetd against major releases.
We might have to look for better ways that book authors like you don't look
dumb. In fact you are not and your work is important for OOo over all.
