That explains the *.pcf.gz fonts not working.

My understanding of the "Standard 35" was that it was 35 font families. I was
wrong about that. You are correct that there are several files for each family.
These were successfully added from Type1 fonts distributed with ghostscript.

However, I have Type1 directories that have *.pfa/*.pfb files WITH their
associated *.afm files that do not show in spadmin. My directory
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts has 21 *pfa files 8 *pfb files and 28 *afm files.
(Apparently one .afm is missing.) The file names of every *afm I checked
corresponds with a *pfa or *pfb file. Therefore most of these fonts should be
showing up in spadmin.

When I select this directory in spadmin, NO fonts are shown. I thought this
might be because they are already added. However, spadmin still shows the
ghostscript fonts that are already added.

I note that most Slackware directories with Type1 fonts have separated the afm
files into a different directory so that these not appearing in OOo is
explained.
eg:
/usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/urw/helvetic
/usr/share/texmf/fonts/afm/urw/helvetic
Naturally, these won't show up in OOo's spadmin.
