I filed this issue in response to postings on the users' list and in the forum.
I have the option in question selected.
The following in a spreadsheet cell works:
=HYPERLINK("file:///home/terry/Data/Work/Spending.ods#A.A1";"spending")
This does not:
=HYPERLINK("file:///~/Data/Work/Spending.ods#A.A1";"spending")

The effect is that interlinking documents must use absolute references which are
broken, obviously, when the files are distributed to others.
