I'm not sure you need the first hunk of the following patch, you didn't tell me if you need those exceptions also for gcc, but the second hunk fixes the Error: No basename found in: g++ problem. Please add the patch to your patch set for now as vq38 is about to be integrated - or open a new issue and assign it to me.
