The input method status bar "[---]" which appears below the cursor in (at least)
Japanese environments gets in the way of viewing the document.  This is
particularly noticeable when editing a spreadsheet, as the cell below the cursor
cannot be read, and is exacerbated by the fact that the "[---]" does not always
move when it should (sometimes covering up the current cell!) although this is a
separate issue.  The "[---]" should either be placed outside the document area,
perhaps in the status area at the bottom of the window, or be hideable via an
option setting.

(Sorry, I don't know what the proper name for the "[---]" is; please adjust the
summary as needed.)
