------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 31 22:48:53 -0800 2006 ------- > libfreetypes [...some suggestions snipped that might get people in legal trouble...] I was thinking of users actually paying the license fee for byte hinting. For those it would be really bad if OOo wouldn't be able to make use of it. > As to why not remove the whole library from CVS: What will happen on older Solaris platforms? We got permissions to host the Solaris 8/GNOME freetype package for Solaris 8/CDE users. > What will happen when the first distributions have libfreetype.so.7? => we won't run at all since now the native X11 fonts are disabled The same thing as when any other system library gets a major upgrade - there will be two versions present for quite some time. OTOH, if we want vanilla OOo to use a newer version of libfreetype than the one installed on the system, this would mean we have to keep it in CVS. However, just doing nothing is *not* a solution: the way it currently is leads to build and other problems frequently (see issue 37086 and issue 53880). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
