And they *do* conflict by name, to install the upstream OOo in parallel with the "built-in" OOo isn't a good idea, the right thing to do is to remove the fedora one and install the upstream one. so... rpm --erase `rpm -qf /usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0|xargs` rpm --install upstream/rpms/*rpm I don't see that any action needs to be taken here by OOo or by fedora, OOo is just one of a gazillion packages that come with Fedora, some of which also provide rpms on their website for installing, but come bundled with Fedora rebuilt with gcc4 and occasionally also additional patched.
