2006 -------
must  have been a faulty installation. copying user setting files from a
parallel OODev-Installation by brute force into the OO_2.1rc2 switched the state
back to normal. Surprisingly the state stayed normal after copying back the
initial user files.
So I don“t know what really happened and feel a bit uneasy about this, but the
problem is gone.
May speculate there is a problem with irregular variable initialisation in the
background.....
