OOo's file format are xml files in a zip-file.
When you break the zip-file e.g. by transfering it in ascii-mode from one server
to another or by a harddisk/other hardware failure, you cannot access the stuff
inside the zip file anymore and thus the file cannot be recovered.
I never saw OOo corrupting a file itself, in all cases with corrupt zip
containers other reasons were the casue.
