The trouble is, the dialogue is automatically opened in the middle of the 
screen. That does not allow 
enough space (on my MacBook screen) to show the expanded options, which somehow 
results in this 
no-draw bug.

I agree that it's not as serious as the messages not drawing at all, but it's 
still a bug, since we can't 
expect users to know they have to reopen or re-expand the dialogue to see those 
strings.

Note: when using WindowShade, minimizing set to the original windowshade effect 
(the blind snaps up 
to the title bar) does not show the strings when reopened. Perhaps this effect 
does not redraw the 
window. A lot of people will have their Minimize set to this effect, so 
minimizing can't be viewed as a 
general workaround for this problem.
