I used green or white text on olive often to save my eyes. I think choosing a different font will solve the problem of not being able to see a light colored one. However I just found (on 1.9.62 snapshot) that if you are using white font on black background, you cannot see the table grid! So you cannot edit a table when you are using an inverted display and that is indeed a bug.
