When you open the document, you should see 1 slide. It's a title page with some text. If you double click to edit the text, OOo will crash. I've had some people say that when they try to edit the text, it just goes away but OOo doesn't crash. I've had other problems trying to embed spreadsheets in slides. They often 'go away'.
