I've installed OOo 2.2 OOFm6 with MS mimetye association to OOo. Copied the links to IE and go. IE asks me wether I want to open or save the files. Selecting 'open the file' generates no error. So I would assume that this error is related to some damaged settings in your IE/system and not to OOo.
