Looking at the document I think you wanted to use Format->Page->Landscape...
The vertical writing feature is intended for asian users (and is only
available if Tools->Options->Languages->CJKsupport is selected), where some
writing system have a vertical writing direction. For an asian user symbols
remaining unrotated are what he probably expects...
Anyway, the inconsistency is clearly a bug. We need to check if symbol glyphs
should get rotated and then fix all use cases consistently.
