Update: Okay, AutoSave has nothing to do with this problem. In fact, it's not
really a problem with the page template field in the status bar. The real
problem is the "current page of pages" field in the status bar, and only when
there are more than 100 pages in the document.

A simple means of duplicating this is to:
1) open a document containing more than 100 pages.
2) Select all and copy to the clipboard.
3) Start a new document and paste the copied text into it, watching the status
bar closely.

As the page-of-pages field updates the page template field should be distorted
at 100 pages. The page of pages field overlaps the field separator and the page
template field. It looks like the page-of-pages field size isn't adjusting for
the third digit properly; instead of just the string getting longer the whole
field gets longer, overlapping the page template field. There may be some shift
to the right of the other fields as well.

When the window loses focus the status bar text and field boundaries are
restored, but there is noticeable displacement of the page template field.
Scrolling to another page or jumping to another page causes the page-of-pages
field to overlap the page template field again. Minimizing and restoring the
window (or any resize actually) corrects the status bar.

AutoSave does not cause the misplacement, but if you are viewing a page other
than the one the cursor is on when AutoSave launches, the fields will be
misplaced when the document jumps to the cursor when AutoSave is complete. A
manual save doesn't make that jump, so it doesn't recreate the misplacement.
