@hro: I'm happy to see that work on this issue has been started.
What kind of locking issues will the fix resolve. E.g. we've observed that in
some situations opening a file on a Samba share with OOo from a Windows machine
and then attempting to open the same file with OOo from a Linux machine gave an
I/O error on the Linux machine rather than an end-user suitable message that the
file is locked by another user. Is it forseeable that the fix for this issue
will resolve this problem, too, or is that another issue?
