------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 20 18:43:33 +0000 2007 ------- The "Find and replace" dialog cannot detect character-wise formatting. For example, suppose a document has formulas like H2O, H2SO4 and also E=MC2. (In the first two words, the 2 is subscript, and in the third it is superscript.) With Writer, it is impossible to search for such combinations precisely. You have to search for only a single letter "2" with "position" attribute. As a result, it throws up a lot of matching entries (in our example, all 3 of the formulas will match.) Desired: Let the user specify precise attributes for each letter separately. It would be nice if the "Seach for" and "replace with" fields allow formatting of the letters directly, using the toolbars of OOo and other formatting shortcuts. For example, here is a scenario to find all plain strings "H2O" and make the "2" subscripted in all of them, AND make the formula in bold letters: 1. Press CTRL+F 2. Enter "H2O" (w/o quotes) in the "Search for" box. 3. Enter "H2O" (w/o quotes) in the "replace with" box. 4. Highlight "2" in the "replace with" box. 5. Click "subscript" button (in the "formatting" toolbar). 6. Select all 3 letters in the "replace with" box. 7. Press CTRL+B to make all letters bold. 8. Press OK. this is just an imaginary scenario, but other schemes can be thought of. The central idea is to search for formatted string that can contain different formats for different letters. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
