I tried to reproduce the described defect with the provided document
<testbeforedamage_dc.odt> under Microsoft Windows and a SuSE Linux with OOo 2.0,
OOo 2.1 and OOo 2.2. I opened the document, saved it under a new filename,
closed it and opened it respectively reload it. Unfortunately, no image got
lost.
OD->JW: Please take over again. I think, we should close this issue as long as
we can't reproduce it.
