Ok, this is actually quite interesting. I reopened the document and all of the
sudden it works and works consistently.

Here's what I did before which might help explain. I had a newly created
document, created within OpenOffice. I then copied and pasted formatted text
created with Microsoft Word. In *that* session I experienced the problem. 

Now that I reopened the document the problem has gone away. So, it may be
related to "under the hood" stuff when copying and pasting from Word.

The only place I now have a semblance of the problem is when I put my cursor on
1.Navigatie in paragraph 2.5 and apply the header 2 style. The result is a
correctly formatted paragraph but with an indent it should not have. But this is
nitpicking, the other problem is much more annoying. At least now, I seem to
have a workaround.
