------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jun 22 11:21:20 +0000 2007 ------- I don't think a setting that affects loading alone is the proper way to deal with this. When I create a document I want to make sure that it works for the recipient of that document. I have no control over the recipient's computer. I want a way to make sure that when the recipient prints my document it comes out of the printer he expects, because otherwise it means trouble for him and for me. In a corporate setting with lots of network printers it is very likely that the document creator and the reader have access to the same printer (or worse, a like-named printer) although the printer may be several floors away from the reader. This can be more than an inconvenience. This can result in breach of confidentiality. It's not unlikely that the recipient and the sender have access to a printer with the same name. When a confidential document comes out of the wrong printer this can be a disaster. It's happened to me that I printed on the wrong printer (although fortunately nothing confidential), because the creator of the document had a like-named printer installed (Happens easily when printers have creative names such as "Kyocera Mita 08/15"). And the worst thing about this is that you won't even notice. You click the print icon, check the printer, nothing's coming out, you think something went wrong and try again. If you go via File/Print the 2nd time and just select the correct printer without thinking about why there's a wrong default, you won't realize that there's an extra copy of your document lying in an unrelated printer tray. The point is: If you want to have only one option, have that apply to saving the document. The important thing is to give document *creators* a reliable way to make sure that their documents will work for their recipients. That's the thing that's missing. Those who print documents have always been able to change the target printer via Printer Settings. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
