> MS Powerpoint has the same default behavior as OOo Impress:

Well - I guess something changed in the text interaction to avoid the most
irritating parts of the auto-capitalization in Impress. However it's not as good
as MSO: they remember that an auto-correct was a failure - and never repeat it
for a given word :-) [ what you want ], whereas OO.o will repeatedly try to
re-apply that given a triggering edit.

OTOH - it's entirely likely that I just forgot the interaction that is
triggering the auto-capitalization irritation in impress.

So - lets change the title to 'calc' - there the effects are acutely obvious &
irritating:

The user scenario:
"User wishes to enter 'hello' in cell A1"
Excel: user types 'hello' -> fine.
Calc: user types 'hello' -> "Hello" - editing in the text entry has *no*
effect, user gets incredibly frustrated. [ but wait, yes - if they happen to
know to prepend the string with "'" then all is well ;-) - though that in itself
is perhaps inconsistent ].

> Hi Michael, do you agree? Then this issue can be closed.

Re-opening.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to turn off this feature for only Calc - hence
the patch: the ideal would be to realise that what you enter in a calc cell is
seldom/never a sentence & => not to do correction for calc at all.
