The issue described here is normal Unicode bidirectional beavior. The opening
parenthesis can sometimes appear as the mirrored glyph ")" according to the
parity of the text resolve level.
But I agree with you that OOo should override the Unicode bidi algorithm to give
the user a more intuitive experience (without the need for directional
formatting characters.) The user's keyboard settings should be recorded as text
is entered. This is what MS Word does to determin what the user expects to see
when he inputs text.
This is a feature request rather than a defect.
