I have a similar problem. The "open with" works if I manually select
swriter.exe or soffice.exe. But next time the open-with will not remember it.
Similar to the original poster, this works fine for every other program. i.e. I
can open-with acrobat (even though this makes no sense) and it will open and
remember my choice.
I found the glitch. I am currently running OpenOffice 2.2.1. And the following
registry key was NOT correctly set when I upgraded over previous version(s)
(1.1.2 and 2.0 I think)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\soffice.exe\shell\open\command
This was set to the wrong path ("c:\program files\OpenOffice1.1.2\sofice.exe" -o
"%1"
it should have been "c:\program files\openoffice 2.2.1\soffice.exe" -o "%1"
i.e. the installer is not correctly updating this registry key. This breaks the
open-with functionality
Similarly registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\swriter.exe\shell\open\command
is set to:
"C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\swriter.exe" "%1"
Seeing as how this path no longer exists...it isn't going to work either.
Correct fix is for the installer to always set the registry key correctly. And
for the uninstaller to clear this registry key.
Work around is to manually edit these registry keys by hand.
