You appear to raise what appears (to my untrained mind) a bogus legal issue :-)

At least my LGPL (2.1) term 2a reads:
a) The modified work must itself be a software library.
I don't believe we change that at all ;-)
If you are referring to 2b:
b) You must cause the files modified to carry prominent notices
stating that you changed the files and the date of any change.
Then - indeed, we can & should commit some updated copyright headers to the
files (as is common practice): Fridrich, please rectify that immediately.
Indeed, in general I am a huge fan of such notices since they give credit to
developers & a human flavour to the code, although (unfortunately) Sun appears
not to accept/appreciate them in it's JCA'd code.

I don't think there is any substantial lack of clarity here. Sun is, privately,
aware of our ongoing review of our position here, and since they are the only
benificiary of the JCA there seems to be little need to discuss this here.
