I had investigated that for other reasons and it seems that it is near than
impossible to prevent Writer from updating fields automatically without a major
rewrite of the code. Code that triggers field updates is found in many different
locations and it differs for different kinds of fields so it's a complete mess.
@flr: if you are refactoring fields: is there any information available about
what you are looking into and when you have planned to integrate possible
changes?
I also would like to have a target assigned to this issue. For the time being I
would propose to use "not determined".
