You really have a strange definition of 'invalid'. That being said, what
prevents you from having sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1 being detected correctly? ^2
applies to sin(), cos(), and the parser should still format the output
correctly, i.e. detect x as the argument of the function.

I disagree with 'invalid' being the correct resolution as you definitely ignores
the real meaning of sin(x), but I don't want to fight about it.
