The "good" solution is to kill the legacy Linux Java font backend and use the
same backend as other GUI apps (ie freetype + fontconfig).
I think the openjdk/icedtea people are doing some work on it, though if they
stop with using freetype as rasteriser and keep the god-awful fonts.properties
which are never synchronised with the actual on-system fonts the problem won't
be solved
