------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 10 01:24:21 +0000 2007 ------- I have made some new tests using the attached font_test.odt document to compare the rendered widths of the Liberation fonts with the MS core fonts. Bottom line: ------------ The only difference between the corresponding faces in the two families is for Times New Roman and Liberation Serif. The Arial/LibSans and Courier New/LibMono font face pairs all render at identical widths in all tests. Also, the different widths were only seen when using OO.org builds under Linux. All tests on Windows and the Fedora build on Linux rendered all the font pairs identically. The different rendering was consistent: appearing in the File > Page Preview and exported PDF, in addition to the editing view. Comparing the OO Writer rendering to that from Abiword showed that the difference comes from a narrower rendering of the Times New Roman faces. The Liberation fonts were the same width in the two applications. Over a 7"-wide line of sample text (89 characters), the Times New sample lines were about 25 points narrower than the corresponding Liberation sample. Platforms/apps tested: WinXP(SP2): OO.org 2.2.0 (all pairs rendered with equal lengths) MS Word 2002 (all pairs rendered with equal lengths) Linux (Fedora 7): OOo Writer 2.2.1-18.2.fc7 (all pairs equal) Abiword 2.4.6-5.fc7 (all pairs equal) kword 1.6.3-9.fc7 (all pairs equal) -- OO.org Writer 2.3.0 [OOG680_m5(build:9221)] (TNR narrower) OO-dev Writer 2.3.0 [SRC680_m231(build:9225)] (TNR narrower) I was not able to reproduce the effect of the display settings that pmartino described. I saw the same pattern of results no matter what desktop setting I used for antialiasing or hinting. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
